Can you give me one good reason why Carrie Underwood shouldn’t run away with the American Idol title?
And how about those Texas Rangers? It feels great to wake up this morning in the midst of a two-game winning streak! Chris Young was brilliant last night. The offense got some timely hits with runners in scoring position (Alfonso Soriano got off the 1 for 25 snide with RISP). And I must admit, it is hilarious to watch the circus that is Eric Byrnes in the Oakland outfield.
Monday afternoon, I picked up Dan Kimball’s book Emerging Worship: Creating Worship Gatherings for New Generations. The book speaks of the need to rethink worship, in view of the dramatic decline among the 18-35 generation. Kimball is unapologetic about his marriage to the Emerging Church movement, brought about by Postmodernism.
In my initial reading in the book, Kimball is calling churches away from “celebratory” seeker-driven worship to a more reflective, meditative worship gathering that allows worshippers to “be still (even silent) and know that I am God.”
To me, the irony is hard to miss. In our heritage, debates persist regarding worship wars. And yet, the debate is often between traditional versus celebratory focused worship. Could it be that the debates regarding worship in our heritage are out-dated, at least according to Christendom at-large? Could it be what conservatives in our movement term “liberal” is really a dying style of worship? Is the new wave of worship really a return to a 17-century monastic model of worship?
