A Mother's Blessing

Several years ago, Gary Smalley and John Trent wrote a wonderful book called The Blessing. In the book, Smalley and Trent hearken back to the patriarchal days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to show how the patriarchs transferred spiritual blessing to their sons. Their application was a modern-day call for parents to bless their children spiritually.

My question is this: Is it possible for mother's to give blessing to their children? In the absence of male spiritual leadership -- which is becoming more and more the norm -- can a godly mother transfer spiritual blessing to her children?

Tomorrow morning, we are going to answer that question with a definite, "Yes!" Using the example of Caananite woman whose daughter was demon-possessed and the examples of Eunice and Lois, mother and grandmother of Timothy, we will see how a godly woman, even in the absence of strong, male spirtual leadership can bless her children.

Along with arising and blessing our mothers, we will also dedicate our new arrivals in the past year. As we come together to praise God, I pray the blessing of mothers and children will double the blessing we receive in worship.
