The View from the Mountaintop

That's where Carrie sits today following her victory in last night's American Idol finale. She and W. have both undeniably proven that a person can win anything in America if they carry the vote from Salt Lake City to Nashville.

The Rangers are also admiring the view from the mountaintop today! Last night's 7-3 win over hapless Kansas City, coupled with the Angels 4-2 defeat to the White Sox, placed the Rangers in a first place tie with the Angels. Near the end of the Angels game last night, Rex Hudler noted the Angels had scored just 12 runs in the 5 games since Vladimir Guerrero's injury.

This is Texas's ideal time to make a move! Tonight, the ageless one, Kenny Rogers toes the rubber in the final game with KC. Let's Go Rangers -- back-to-back sweeps!

Is your church environment safe? By that, I mean does your home church environment project an aura of safety for those who are spiritually struggling?

Reading last night in Bill Hull's excellent book Choose the Life: Exploring a Faith that Embraces Discipleship reminds me of the necessity to create a church enviornment that fosters safety, authenticity and vulnerability.

"In what climate does transformation thrive? The answer is simple: in order for anyone to grow, there must be a safe, risk-free environment. Repentance and confession are linked to trust in others. Can I be real? Can I be vulnerable? Can I submit myself to these people? Unless the community provides a safe environment that promotes trust, people will not open up. Unless people open up, transformation (into Christlikeness) will be largely absent (133)."
