Thursday's This-and-That

Ever been convicted by a newspaper article? I know it sounds crazy but this one nailed me between the eyes yesterday.

"Strong work ethics are good, but never getting downtime isn't healthy. Everyone -- workaholic or not -- needs a break, especially in do-more-with-less workplaces. There's no question that the American work force as a whole is productive. But that productivity can extract a price in morale, mental and physical health."

More accolades coming the Hambino's way. On Monday, Josh Hamilton became the first player in the 35-year history of the American League Player of the Month Award to win back-to-back months of April and May.

This salient take, courtesy of Jamey Newberg:

"Here's your daily Josh Hamilton vitamin: Hamilton is back in the American League lead in the three Triple Crown categories, sitting at .329 with 17 home runs and 67 RBI. According to Elias, the only other player in the American League in the last 35 years to lead all three categories this late in the season was Manny Ramirez, who did it in 2001. No word from Elias as to the last time a player led the league this late in all three Triple Crown categories and played defense."

Later this morning, it is north to Turlock for the funeral of Barbara Lawley's mother. Barbara is a dear friend and an invaluable support for the ministry staff at Woodward Park. Her mother lived to be 92 years-old. Please remember Barbara and her family in your prayers today.
